Many local restaurants in Southwest Florida have transitioned from a food truck to a physical location and Chef JD and his wife, Jennifer, have recently made that transition, bringing The Food Rock to the University Village in Estero.
This was great news to The Food Rock fans like myself, as now I know where they are all the time and can always get a taste of their delicious Caribbean food, which is exactly what I did last night!
I had promised Chef JD I would visit his new location as soon as possible, and when the opportunity presented itself yesterday, I did not hesitate to visit them!
Upon arriving I could see some of the touches Chef JD and Jennifer had put into the place. Bright walls, reggae playing and inspiring messages all over the place, and the most warming welcoming as customary from both, we felt at home as soon as we arrived.
We placed our order and I went with Chef JD’s Griot Tacos, which included tendered pulled pork served on a corn tortilla, topped with island slaw and 3 special sauces while my wife went with the chicken gyro.
Chef JD had also prepared a Yellow Pepper soup, in which he brought us a bowl each and it was absolutely delicious! The mix of the flavors from the pepper with the spices he put into the soup, just made it absolutely out of this world.
Once are food arrived, I dug in to the tacos that were amazing. Just as described, the pork was so tender and flavorful, the island slaw was delicious and the sauces just combined more to the already flavorful mix. My wife also loved her chicken gyro, suggesting it was delicious and loved the freshness of the veggies in it.
Chef JD came out and greeted us and we talked for a little before he needed to get back as customers continued to pour into his new place.
I am so happy that Chef JD and Jennifer made this transition and even happier that it is going super well for them!
