Bar Manager - The Continental Restaurant

The Bar Manager is responsible for overseeing the operation of the bar as well dispensing beverages in a professional, courteous, and timely manner.   Serves guests at a fine dining restaurant in accordance with D’Amico standards and in compliance with policy and law regarding the service of alcohol.   This position is the direct contact and face of D’Amico with guests.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Responsible for operation and maintenance of the bar.   In addition, this position has all of the duties of a bartender.  They will pour and mix drinks based on customer requests, verify identification and age of customers, accept payment, balance receipts to record sales, and reconcile at the end of the shift.
2. Hire, train, supervise, schedule, direct, and discipline the bar staff for maximum efficiency.  Acts as a role model to train and coach bar staff.
3. Purchase liquor, beer, wine, sodas, bottled water, and other beverages as required. Act as a liaison with beverage vendors, developing good relationships with tact and integrity, always keeping the company’s interest in mind.
4. Continuously train staff.  This will include legal alcohol service, beverage offerings, tastings and key food and beverage pairings.
5. Evaluate servings, recipe compliance, cash handling, and unit cost preparation while on the floor, controlling cost through policy, beverage pricing, and inventory maintenance.
6. Enforce a high degree of cleanliness in the bar areas and all bar equipment.
7. Communicate regularly with management. Prepare and submit all required information on staffing, forecasts, inventories, and bar reconciliations.
8. Attend weekly manager meetings and communicate meeting information to bar team.
9. Ensure storage spaces are clean and organize.
10. Code all invoices according to established procedures and works with accounting department as required to reconcile discrepancies.
11. Ensure all vendors are paid in a timely fashion.
12. Prepare full profit and lost management of liquor and beer program.
13. Work with corporate staff and senior management to stay knowledgeable on issues pertaining to liquor license and the service of alcohol.
14. As directed by the General Manager or the Director of Operations, assist with beverage menu development and descriptions, sample beverages, and keep current on industry trends.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

1. Must be able to bend, lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular and continuing basis.
2. Must be able to pass a criminal background check in accordance with Company procedures for positions that handle cash and/or safe deposits.
3. Must be able to stand and exert fast-paced mobility for period up to eight hours.
4. Must be able to speak clearly and listen attentively to all guests and staff, most of whom speak English.
5. Must possess manual dexterity to use computer and other point of sale equipment.
6. Must have the ability to consistently arrive at work for all scheduled shifts as assigned.

Starting wage is $18 an hour plus tips when working the bar.
