The quest for truly exceptional Korean cuisine often requires dedication, and last Friday, that dedication led me on a southbound pilgrimage from Naples to Fort Myers. While my global travels have introduced me to Korea’s culinary gifts—primarily the sizzle of Korean BBQ—I’ve yet to find a South Florida spot that transcends the familiar. Until now.

Located conveniently off Cleveland Avenue, JUN Korean & Sushi is not just a restaurant; it’s a destination. I was greeted immediately by a warm and attentive staff, signaling that this was a well-managed establishment dedicated to genuine hospitality. My mission was simple: bypass the tourist trail and find what the locals feast upon. My server was an immediate partner in this endeavor, pointing me toward the truly authentic, soul-satisfying dishes. I may have ordered enough food for a small army, but when the cuisine is this good, restraint is a cardinal sin.

The Opening Act: A Crispy Masterpiece

I began the experience with the Seafood Jeon, a generous Korean pancake that arrived sizzling and golden brown. This was no ordinary appetizer. Crispy at the edges and impossibly savory inside, the enormous portion did not shy away from luxury. Each slice was studded with an abundance of fresh, high-quality seafood—a testament to the kitchen’s commitment to ingredients. This dish is not merely recommended; it’s mandatory.

The Main Event: A Symphony of Spice, Umami, and Fire

With the stage set, the main courses arrived, signaling a shift from savory comfort to spectacular indulgence.

First, the La Galbi: these Sweet and savory Korean marinated bone-in short ribs were a marvel of flavor engineering. The marinade achieved a perfect, sweet-savory umami balance that melted into the tender, bone-hugging meat. They were so succulently tender, resisting the urge to simply pick up the white rice bowl and scrape every last drop of sauce was futile.

Next, the Jjampong—a dramatic, fiery Korean noodle soup that is the perfect antidote to the ordinary. This was an astonishing bowl of oceanic goodness, featuring an array of fresh vegetables and, unbelievably, a huge, stunning lobster tail perched regally on top, alongside plump, large shrimp. The broth was a deep, complex, and invigorating heat, perfectly marrying the spice with the rich seafood essence. It was, quite simply, one of the best noodle soups I have ever encountered.

Finally, a dish I had to try after seeing it praised on the wall: the Korean Fried Chicken (KFC). Opting for the “New flavor” Honey & Garlic glaze, I was rewarded with a flawless textural experience. The chicken was aggressively crisp, retaining its crunch beneath a sweet and tangy glaze that clung beautifully to every piece. Forget what you think you know about fried chicken; JUN’s version sets a new, supremely high standard.

Conclusion: A Triumphant Culinary Drive

The sheer volume of food I was able to enjoy—and subsequently take home—was part of the joyous spectacle. Every dish demonstrated a profound respect for authentic Korean flavor and superior preparation. The drive from Naples was not just worth it; it was a necessary journey to discover the best Korean food in Southwest Florida.

Go now. You will be as impressed as I was. I am already planning my next feast.
