Alright, buckle up, fellow food enthusiasts, because I’ve stumbled upon a treasure that deserves a spotlight on your culinary map! This past week, my taste buds embarked on a delightful journey to Tableside Restaurant, nestled within the charming Shoppes at Vanderbilt, and let me tell you – this isn’t just a meal; it’s an experience.

Often, the best finds are tucked away, and Tableside certainly qualifies as a hidden gem. Billing itself as a Romanian/American restaurant, it piqued my interest with the promise of authentic Romanian flavors. Having previously explored the vibrant city of Timisoara in Romania, I knew firsthand the magic that Romanian cuisine holds, and my cravings had reached a fever pitch.

The setting itself sets the stage for a lovely meal. Imagine the gentle murmur of a beautiful water fountain as you enjoy your meal in their inviting outdoor seating area. Alternatively, step inside to discover a modern and stylish interior, complete with a seriously cool bar that beckons for a pre-dinner aperitif.

Speaking of which, my experience began with a nostalgic sip of Timisoreana, a beer hailing from Timisoara itself and brewed by Romania’s oldest brewery. It was a delightful nod to my past travels and a perfect palate cleanser. My dining companion (my wonderful wife) and I then shared the white bean dip with warm pita bread. This unassuming starter was surprisingly substantial and bursting with flavor – a promising prelude to what was to come.

For the main course, my heart (and stomach) was set on the Sarmale and Mamaliga. For those unfamiliar, this traditional Romanian dish features perfectly seasoned ground pork, lovingly enveloped in tender cabbage leaves, and served alongside creamy polenta. Each bite was an explosion of savory goodness, the richness of the pork beautifully complemented by the slightly tangy cabbage. The addition of the creamy polenta, with its subtle cheesy notes, elevated the dish to another level of comfort food perfection. It was hearty, flavorful, and utterly satisfying – a true taste of Romania.

My wife opted for the Tableside salad with chicken, and her enthusiastic reviews echoed my own satisfaction. Fresh, vibrant, and generously portioned, it proved that even their more “American” offerings are crafted with care and quality ingredients.

However, beyond the exceptional food, what truly stood out was the remarkable service. Our server was attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about the menu. And then there’s Chef and owner Gabriel – a culinary maestro whose dedication to his craft shines through in every dish. His warm hospitality made us feel like valued guests, and his passion for sharing the flavors of his heritage is truly infectious.

To put it simply, Tableside Restaurant has earned a resounding “Felipe Approved” in my book (and those who know me know that’s high praise!).

It’s a culinary haven that seamlessly blends tradition with a contemporary touch, offering a unique and utterly delicious dining experience.

I wholeheartedly recommend a visit. Trust me, your taste buds will thank you, and you’ll likely find yourself planning your return trip before you even leave.

This isn’t just a meal; it’s a delightful discovery waiting to be savored.
