Have you ever learned of something new, only to form an opinion on your mind to be something and when you actually get to see it or do it, its something completely different?

Well, this was me with axe throwing!

Recently I learned that my friends Brittney and Ryan were opening an axe throwing business, which would offer a place for you to come in, enjoy some drinks and throw axes to have some fun.

I must confess, I am not the “FloGrown” or “Salt Life” life type of guy, after all I grew up in the “mean” streets of Boston and I am much more of a city boy than anything else.

So when I heard of axe throwing, it sounded somewhat ‘barbaric’ to me, something that you would do if you lived in a large plot of land and wanted to scare the neighbors with your axe throwing ability.

Well, that all changed yesterday when I visited their business: The Axe Lodge!

When you first walk in, you get this cool of a modern and hip place (similar to a brewery, which I learned to visit often and love while living here in SWFL). The place is super nicely decorated giving you a true Lodge feeling to it.

With a bar right at the center of the lanes, you can easily order a drink (beer, wine, soft drinks, water) from any of the lanes you are playing at. The Axe Lodge also offers a beer wall, in which offers beer from local breweries. They also have featured beers weekly!

Ryan proceeded to give me a little lesson on how to best throw the axe, how the different games work and where I should stand.

Here is another confession… I had never held an axe before!

I was a bit intimidated at first to hold something that can cause some damage and to throw against a wall.

Once, I built enough courage and tried, I did not want to stop playing. Not only its super fun, it gives you this liberating feeling that makes you want to keep doing!

After a few games, I checked out the rest of the place, where there is a Game area for kids to play games and a sitting area up front where you can order food and eat. The place has plenty of TVs and is always playing great music!

While The Axe Lodge does not serve their own food, you are encouraged to order from any of the restaurants at the Vanderbilt Shoppes (many will deliver to you at the Axe Lodge) or you can bring your own or have it delivered there as well!

The Axe Lodge is a fun place for any occasion! While out on a date, or doing a team building event, a birthday party, this is a place to be considered for sure!

Be sure to visit soon! Call or visit their website to book your time!
